To Remember As Alive. Petro Franko: Return of/from the Legend.

A cultural and educational initiative that uses the mobile exhibition tool and a follow-up program to introduce innovative informal commemorative practices, such as focusing on the cultural memory about Petro Franko.

The project is implemented by the Ivan Franko Museums Association NGO promoting the establishment of cooperation with Ivan Franko museums to work together to commemorate the outstanding Ukrainian writer, thinker, public and political figure, Ivan Franko, and to research and promote his spiritual heritage in Ukraine and abroad.

‍Relevance

The project’s objective is to decolonize historical memory and (re)construct modern Ukrainian identity by re-introducing forgotten historical personalities cancelled by the totalitarian system (as illustrated by Petro Franko) and to introduce innovative informal commemorative practices for the development of valid opportunities to represent memorial history through the organization of a program of cultural and educational events.‍

The project intends to decolonize historical memory and (re)construct modern Ukrainian identity by re-introducing forgotten historical personalities erased by the totalitarian system.

Who For and With?

The project targets wide audiences of museum visitors who are interested in the development of Ukrainian cultural memory, including Lviv residents, students, Plast scouts, and researchers.

• changing the focus of historical lens: from trauma to activity, from the victim complex to the formula for success, from defeats to victories – as illustrated by proactive, strong, and successful people;
• changing paradigms of cultural memory;
• change in the forms and methods of representation of historical figures and the introduction of innovative informal commemorative practices for the development of current opportunities to represent national history.
