Ukrainian Cross-Section 2022. UKRAINE! UNMUTED

5 min

3 November 2022

November 4 – December 4 the fifth Ukrainian contemporary art triennial „Ukrainian Cross-Section 2022. UKRAINE! UNMUTED“ is presented at Kaunas central post office.

The «Ukrainian Cross-Section» will speak to the Lithuanian audience through art and performance, dialogues and discussions, word and emotion and invites to unmute Ukraine for yourselves.

The 5th «Ukrainian Cross-Section» will open on November 4th, in Kaunas, Lithuania. Previously the triennial took place in Lublin (2010 and 2013), Wroclaw (2016), Lviv (2019). In 2022 the Ukrainian realities are determined mostly by war, by the scale of aggression the world hasn’t seen since WWII, the aggression at the door and a every minute menace. The exhibition is a snapshot of Ukrainian art in this reality. The war is a catalyst of numerous shifts in Ukrainian society and public institutions; it puts existential questions and demands quick and honest answers. In this context a discussion on Ukrainian art and culture, as well as artistic expressions of Ukrainian artists, are holding the new connotations: rather outright, sharp, unexpected, peremptory, and tragic ones. The Ukrainian Cross-Section is an occasion to expose and to hear these voices.

Within the project, an exhibition of 17 art projects of Ukrainian artists is planned, as well as a performance part, curatorial tours, a series of discussions, publication and presentation of an essay book.
